Ambassador of Afghanistan to our country visited the State Migration Service
Chief of the State Migration Service, II rank migration service counselor Firudin Nabiyev met with Mohammad Tagi Khalili, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The historical background of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Afghanistan have been discussed during the meeting. The fair position of the Afghanistan Islam Republic in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as a result of Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and support provided to the Republic of Azerbaijan has been highly appreciated.
Chief of the Service talked about the activity directions of the State Migration Service, which implements competencies of unified state authority upon the “one-shop principle” in the management of migration processes. He noted that foreigners coming to our country and willing to stay more than 10 days should get registered at the SMS upon place of stay. F. Nabiyev brought to the attention that issuance of permits for temporary and permanent residence in our country, as well as work permits are carried out by the Service. In addition, the State Migration Service receives applications of foreigners coming to the Republic of Azerbaijan to get the status of refugee or asylum seekers and participates in the issues of citizenship within its competencies. Chief of the Service noted that as a result of care and attention of the President Ilham Aliyev, today structural units of the SMS operate in other regions and international airports to ensure convenience of foreigners and stateless persons.
Moreover, amendments made to the national legislation on migration and citizenship have been discussed at the meeting. A number of issues interested by the Ambassador have been clarified within the legislative framework.
In addition, a number of issues related to Afghani citizens have been touched upon, and joint steps that can be taken regarding the referred issues have been discussed.
During the meeting, the perspectives of possible cooperation between the two countries in the field of management of migration processes have been analyzed and the importance of exchange of experience and information have been noted.
At the end expressing his gratitude for the support and assistance provided by the government of Azerbaijan to Afghanistan, Mr. Mohammed Tagi Khalili noted his interest in further expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan in all fields and shared his views on development directions of cooperation between the two countries in the field of migration.
Other issues of mutual interest were discussed at the meeting.
