Memory of martyrs of 20 January was revered with esteem at State Migration Service

A commemoration ceremony dedicated to the 27th anniversary of 20 January tragedy was held at State Migration Service.

First of all memory of victims was revered with one minute’s silence.

At the event First Deputy Chief of State Migration Service, III rank state migration service counselor Vali Naghiyev gave information on bloody crimes perpetrated by militaries of former Soviet empire in Azerbaijan on the night of January 19-20 by delivering a lecture. He noted those incidents as a military crime committed against humanity. He mentioned that inflicting bloody reprisal to unarmed civilians, to people who were on dream of freedom and independence by empire army, is actually terrible act committed against world and humanity. The first one who contested this tragedy was National Leader Heydar Aliyev. After the incidents, on January 21, 1990 in spite of being under special surveillance in Moscow, putting his own and family members’ life under the obvious danger Great Leader immediately came to permanent representation of Azerbaijan in Moscow and raised a stink about aggression, demanded the withdrawal of troops from Baku by strictly accusing perpetrators of incident, personally M.Gorbachov. January 21, 1990 dated declaration of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was the first political value given to tragedy.  It was recommended to Milli Majlis giving complete and well-grounded political-juridical value to tragedy on the Decree of Great Leader on holding the 4th anniversary of 20 January tragedy in 1994.  As a result of discussions at Milli Majlis on March 29, 1994 the decision was adopted on “Tragic events committed in Baku on January 20, 1990”. The 20 January tragedy has finally achieved its legal and political value after the principal and consistent struggle of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

The worthy successor of wise and farsighted policy of Great Leader, President Ilham Aliyev pays special attention to appraisal of the memory of martyrs and solution of social problems of their families. Head of the state adopts relevant decisions for respectfully commemorating on state level the memory of martyrs who their lives for freedom, independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The Decree of the President Ilham Aliyev on “Establishing stipend of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the family of January 20 martyr” dated from January 19, 2006 plays a significant role from this pointing view.  Besides, substantial repair and reconstruction works were carried out at Alley of Martyrs and memorial monument complex was erected on the memory of January 20 martyrs with the contribution of the head of state.

It was emphasized that in spite of severity of this wound, this blast the Azerbaijani nation did not give up, whereas our nation restored state independence by proudly keeping their head up. Today also maintain and strengthen own independence under the leadership of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Of course, our nation never forgets the victims of Azerbaijan for its freedom and territorial integrity, always commemorates them.
