State Migration Service held an event on the occasion of 21 September “International Day of Peace”

Plan was prepared on events that will be implemented by State Migration Service according to the provisions of “National Program for Action to raise effectiveness of the protection of human rights and freedoms in the Republic of Azerbaijan” approved by December 27, 2014 dated Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev in the frame of “Peace month” announced in 21 August – 21 September in connection with “International Day of Peace” that is celebrated every year on 21st of September across the world.

At the event held in accordance with Action Plan in Goychay district included into the service area of Aghsu Regional Migration Department with the participation of public representatives, foreigners and stateless persons chief of head department of the Service, senior migration service counselor Vahid Gahramanov stated in his speech on “Role of migrants in multicultural society” that steps taken by the President Ilham Aliyev towards development of multicultural relations are sustainable. The declaration of 2016 as the “Year of Multiculturalism” in Azerbaijan is another example that how our state is governed on the basis of tolerance and endurance principles.

Today every person who comes to our country from all continents of the world feels comfortable in Azerbaijan which is homeland for representatives of different nations regardless of their nationality and religion. State Migration Service also uses all the possible instruments in its activity for the purpose of comfortable and legal residence of foreigners and stateless persons in Azerbaijan.

Chief of Investigation of Citizenship Issues Department of Citizenship Issues Head Department, junior migration service counselor Jamil Huseynov delivered a speech on “Measures on eradication of statelessness”. He stated that the Republic of Azerbaijan acceded to UNCHR campaign “To end statelessness in 10 years” in order to raise awareness in the field of fight against statelessness, to solve the problems arising during the determination of legal status of these persons, as well as to strength cooperation for effective protection of their rights. State Migration Service is taking fundamental measures in accordance with requirements of international conventions that our country is a party to in the field of fight against statelessness in the Republic of Azerbaijan. So that, a number of measures were taken regarding eradication of statelessness, identification of foreigners who are citizens of different states and resided in various regions of our country. It was revealed that some of them resided illegally in the territory of the country for many years. In order to provide such individuals with relevant residence permits numerous events are held in the regions, explanatory works are continued, as well as legal aid is rendered to them. Besides, relevant measures are being taken towards detection and documentation of persons who live with post-soviet passport and whose citizenship has not been established. The measures in this direction yield positive results.

The speakers estimated this purposeful policy as an example of humanist nature of Azerbaijan state.
