State Migration Service held public awareness event in Naftalan

Report on the role of legal migration in the economic and cultural life of the country was presented at the event which was held at Heydar Aliyev Center functioning in Naftalan city with the participation of the public, local executive authorities, representatives of municipalities, employees of hotels and sanatoriums, educational sphere and entrepreneurs. It was stated that migration and migrants are among most pressing topics broadly discussed across the modern world. It is known that migrant is a person migrating within the country or from one country to another for permanent or temporary residence depending on the purpose. Migrants can be divided into two categories: foreigners and stateless persons observing rules on arrival and departure from, stay, residence in the country and other rules arising from these are legal migrants; at the same time those who do not observe at least one of the mentioned requirements are illegal migrants.

Detailed information was given on work done by State Migration Service since its establishment for the purpose of strengthening state control over migration processes, as well as activities carried out for legalization of persons residing on the territory of the country illegally and without documents. Measures on combatting illegal migration were dealt with and the role of the public in the conduct of the fight was mentioned.

According to the Migration Code realization of the rights and freedoms of foreigners and stateless persons should not be against national interests of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Foreigners and stateless persons should not violate requirements of our Constitution, laws and other legislative acts and should respects customs and traditions of Azerbaijani people.

Employees of the State Migration Service spoke about practical application of legal norms in migration sphere, as well as commented on latest amendments to the legislation.

It was emphasized that as a result of attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev the level of services rendered for realization of the rights to legal stay and residence, work, education is increased every year. As facilitation of the procedures on services rendered by State Migration Service related with foreigners and stateless persons – registration upon place of stay, issuance of temporary and permanent residence permits, as well as issuance and extension of work permits for carrying out paid labour activity in the Republic of Azerbaijan by foreigners and stateless persons, implementation of consistent activities for improvement of the legislation was brought to attention with concrete facts.
