Officials of State Migration Service met with students of State Academy of Arts

Authorized official of the Service shared his views on migration processes in the globalizing world at the meeting with students of Azerbaijan State Academy of Arts according to the Plan of Actions on raising awareness of foreigners and stateless persons in our republic on the eve of 9th establishment anniversary of State Migration Service. Problems of persons from Near East who became forced migrants as a result of foreign intervention and their problems faced in Europe, as well as existing migrant crisis in the old continent were discussed. Information was provided about condition established for foreigners and stateless persons in Azerbaijan where stability has been ensured under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, as well as tolerant and multicultural values are dominant. Progressiveness of national migration legislation was presented with concrete facts. It was stated that since the establishment of State Migration Service measures for regulation of migration processes on unified and flexible procedures, elimination of challenges in this sphere, facilitation of documentation, ensuring convenience of foreigners and stateless persons, increasing efficiency in the field of protection of their rights have been further expanded. It was brought into attention that previous legislation did not allow to extend permission for temporary residence, as well as work permit for carrying out labour activity more than 4 times, but after adoption of Migration Code this limit was abolished. At the same time, foreigners and stateless persons married with citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, persons filing application for obtaining refugee status, granted refugee status or political asylum, as well as foreigners and stateless persons who have in their custody under 18 or I group disabled citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan are not required to obtain work permit. It was assessed as a concrete example of humanist nature of Azerbaijan state that the amount of state fee for issuance and extension of permission card for temporary residence on the territory of the country to minor foreigners and stateless persons has been determined as 50 per cent of the amount determined for adult foreigners and stateless persons, as well as state fee for students receiving full time education at institutes of higher education and technical schools has been determined in the amount of 40 manats for 1 year period.

At the meeting it was emphasized that though provisions on testing knowledge of foreigners and stateless persons on their rights and obligations, as well as official language is new for our country, it has great importance from the aspect of foreigners’ integration to our society.
