State Migration Service held public awareness event in Shabran  

The event was organized in accordance with Action Plan which was approved on the eve of establishment anniversary of State Migration Service with the participation of foreigners and stateless persons, country citizens, representatives of relevant state agencies, public organizations, employers, entrepreneurs residing in Shabran and adjacent districts which is included in the service area of Khachmaz Regional Migration Department.

Representatives of the regional migration department and the Headquarters of the Service gave detailed information to participants on migration legislation of Azerbaijan. Measures carried out for protection of the rights of foreigners and stateless persons in Azerbaijan were discussed. It was notified that foreigners and stateless persons arriving in our country must legalize their stay and residence in the republic in order to have their rights protected by the state. As their application to State Migration Service and observance of migration legislation of the country creates legal base to protect them from any threats that may arise. What is important, everyone should respect laws of the Republic Azerbaijan.

At the event debates were held on novelties in new Administrative Offences Code which entered into force on March 1 of the current year. It was mentioned that authorized persons are fined in the amount from 300 manats up to 500 manats, legal persons from 3000 manats up to 5000 manats for violation of rules defined by Migration Code on registration and deregistration of foreigners and stateless persons, issuance of documents entitling them to stay and reside by institution, department or organization receiving foreigners and stateless persons, providing them with services or employment and implementing tasks observance of their stay, residence in, as well as transit through the territory of the republic. Moreover, country citizens providing residential area for foreigners and stateless persons are fined in the amount from 300 manats up  to 500 manats for not taking measures on registration and deregistration upon place of stay in time. Foreigners and stateless persons are fined in the amount from 300 manats up to 400 manats with or without administrative expulsion from the territory of the country for violation of rules on stay, residence or transit in/through the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Later report on citizenship issues was presented. Answering the question on dual citizenship it was stated that as for the amendments dated from May 30, 2014 Article 10 of the Law “On Citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan” indicates that in case citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan possesses dual citizenship, person’s citizenship of a foreign state is not recognized except for the cases envisaged by the international agreements of the Republic of Azerbaijan or resolved in compliance with Item 32 of Article 109 of the Constitution. Citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan who accepted citizenship of a foreign state should give written information within one month to State Migration Service if they are in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to the diplomatic representation of the Republic of Azerbaijan or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via consular departments if they are abroad.
