Delegation of the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated at the round table on “New Strategies of Managing Migration as the Key to a Successful Development of Society” held in Sochi, Russia

Deputy chief of the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, III rank state migration service counselor Parviz Musayev paid an official visit to Sochi, Russian Federation in order to participate at the Ministerial Meeting on Migration and the Round Table on "New Strategies of Managing Migration as the Key to a Successful Development of Society" held in the framework of chairmanship of RussianFederation to the BRICS – the group combining Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Representatives of Russian Federation, Republic of India, People’s Republic of China, Republic of South Africa, The Republic of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Mongolia, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Armenia, International Organization for Migration, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Commonwealth of Independent States, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and Eurasian Economic Commission participated at the round table.

The participants of the round table made speeches on the role of migration as the factor of the successful development of the society in the context of its influence on the socio-economic and demographic situation in the world, new challenges and strategies in the frames of the existing migration flows, as well as the international protection and the informational exchange.

Head of delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan Parviz Musayev brought to the participants’ attentioninformation on the work done and gained achievements in migration sphere the in our country. In his speech he specially emphasized the facts about seeking refuge from Azerbaijan by 250 thousand Azerbaijanis,who were expelled from their homelands, occupation of 20% of the territory of Azerbaijan – Nagorno Karabagh and 7 adjacent regions, internally displacement of our 700 thousand citizens as a result of ethnic cleansing policy deliberately implemented by the Republic of Armenia at the end of 80s and at the beginning of 90s of the last century.

It was noted that implementation of international and regional projects in energy and transportation sphere, social, political and economic stability in the country, dynamic economic development are the key factors causing foreigners’ flow to our country. High level tolerance in our country was stated as a factor with no less importance to the migration process, as well. It was noted that, violation against migrants in the national, ethnic and religiouscontext was not recorded until today. Furthermore it was stated that the Republic of Azerbaijan uses possible international tools for more effective regulation of migration, especially labour migration process. Thus, the Republic of Azerbaijan signed bilateral and multilateral agreements with a number of countries in order to ensure protection of labour migrants and their family members’ rights. As well as simplification of migration legislation of in the Republic of Azerbaijan and adoption of first Migration Code in our country among the region countries were brought to the attention of participants.
