Chief of the State Migration Service received representative of UNHCR in Azerbaijan

On April 4, 2012 chief of the State Migration Service (SMS) of Azerbaijan Republic, III rank state migration service counselor Firudin Nabiyev received representative of United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Dag Sigurdson.

Greeting the guest sincerely Firudin Nabiyev spoke about cooperation between the entity he led and the representation, expressed his satisfaction with the sensitive approach to asylum-seekers’ and refugees’ problems according to its mandate and the activity towards solution of these persons’ problems, and stated his assurance of importance of the meetings for both sides.

During the meeting Firudin Nabiyev gave information on measures taken by the State Migration Service regarding determination of refugee status and noted that information exchange on mentioned sphere could be efficient.

Dag Sigurdson in his turn congratulated Service chief on new appointment and wished him success in his service activity. The guest emphasized the necessity of further development of bilateral cooperation between State Migration Service of Azerbaijan Republic and representation of the entity he represented, including continuation of relevant trainings and workshops for preparation of qualified staff and experience exchange.

Dag Sigurdson also dealt with the problems which persons under UNHCR protection faced in labor market and banking sector and ways of solution of these problems.

Service chief notified Azerbaijan government’s tolerant attitude to persons under UNHCR protection, application of individual approach towards each application, steps taken towards solution of such persons’ problems and further continuation of these efforts in the future.      

At the end discussion was conducted on other issues of interest for both sides.
