A meeting with UN Resident Coordinator was held at State Migration Service
A meeting was held at State Migration Service with UN Resident Coordinator and resident representative of UN Development Fund Ghulam Isaczai.
Long-term cooperation between the Service and relevant institutions of UN has been touched upon at the meeting conducted in the atmosphere of mutual exchange of opinions.
The Chief of State Migration Service, II rank state migration service counselor Firudin Nabiyev noted that Azerbaijan turned to a transit and destination country from a country of origin as a result of achievements, socio-economic improvements, high level insurance of stability and security under the leadership of Prezident Ilham Aliyev. He stated that substantial measures have been taken in our country in the field of regulation and management of migration processes. The legislation has been improved, the application of relevant norms regarding the registration of foreigners and stateless persons upon place of stay, the grounds and duration of residence on the state territory, the issuance of work permits, as well as other norms has been facilitated.
The significance of the subject of migration and migrants in modern world has been highlighted at the meeting. The migrant crisis in Europe was touched upon.
The Service chief talked about the huge migration problem – the flow of 1 million refugee and internally displaced persons - faced by Azerbaijan at the end of 80s and beginning of 90s of last century as a result of Armenian aggression. Remarking protraction of the aggression even today, he also mentioned the works done by Azerbaijan government for solving the problems of refugees and displaced person and the incidents occurred on the frontline due to Armenian intervention.
Drawing attention to the accession of the Republic of Azerbaijan to UNHCR campaign “To end statelessness in 10 years” by bearing the importance of the right to citizenship in mind as one of the fundamental human rights F.Nabiyev touched upon the works done by the Service in the regions of the country for eradication of statelessness in a short period of time.
The confidence on further development of efficient mutual cooperation between the State Migration Service and relevant UN institutions was expressed at the meeting.
UN Resident Coordinator and resident representative of UN Development Fund Ghulam Isaczai stressed that the positive impact of the constructive policy pursued in Azerbaijan is observed in all spheres, as well as in migration.
Later on the exchange of opinion was held on the issues of mutual interest.
