Memory of victims of 20 January tragedy was revered at State Migration Service
First of all memory of martyrs was revered with one minute’s silence at the commemoration ceremony.
Later Deputy Chief of State Migration Service, senior migration service counselor Vali Naghiyev delivered lecture on bloody crimes perpetrated by military detachments of Soviet empire against peaceful population in January of 1990. Historic facts on the incident were brought into attention. It was mentioned that 26 years ago on the night from 19 to 20 January Soviet empire sent troops to Baku, unarmed civilians were slaughtered, 147 persons were killed and more than 700 persons were wounded..
V.Naghiyev spoke about historic importance of specific courageous and determined speech of National leader Heydar Aliyev at press conference held at permanent representative of our republic in Moscow on the next day of the incident when USSR still existed. He stated that after return of great leader to political power at the persistent demand of the people, Memorial complex was erected in Baku as a respect to martyrs of the Motherland, citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who lost their lives demonstrating great patriotism during 20 January tragedy were honored with the title “20 January martyr”.
Steps undertaken in order to eternalize memory of martyrs by President Ilham Aliyev, as well as attention and care towards families of martyrs were discussed at the event.
At the commemoration ceremony it was specially emphasized that 20 January tragedy which shall remain in our memory forever, is a heroism date of our history as well.
At the end participants of the ceremony watched documentary film dealing with 20 January incidents.
Photo and book exhibition opened at State Migration Service on the eve of anniversary of the incident, which served to create clear and objective picture on 20 January tragedy, aroused interest of visitors, as well.
