The service for the extension of the temporary staying period of foreigners in Azerbaijan was fully digitalized

Pursuant to the relevant Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated July 27, 2026, legislative acts providing for the full digitalization of the process for the extension of the temporary staying period of foreigners and stateless persons in the Republic of Azerbaijan were approved.

According to the recent amendments to the legislation, the service for the extension of the temporary staying period in the Republic of Azerbaijan provided by the State Migration Service to foreigners and stateless persons has been fully digitalized while the option to submit an aplication  in person has been retained, and the paper-based version of the decision on the extension of the temporary staying period in the Republic of Azerbaijan, provided to applicants as the outcome of that service, has been discontinued.

Accordingly, the decision on the extension of the temporary staying period of foreigners and stateless persons in the Republic of Azerbaijan will henceforth be drawn up in the form of an electronic document and, folloüing payment of the state fee, e transmitted to the Electronic Government Information System for placement in the applicant's electronic cabinet within that system. The decision will also be sent to the email address provided by the applicant.

Furthermore, the new amendments provide that the decisions on the extension of temporary staying period issued in paper formto date will retain their legal validity until the expiraty period specifiedtherein. It is also envisaged that if such decisions are lost, destroyed, or become unusable, or if the information in the identity documents of the foreigner and stateless person concerned changes, the decission will be drawn up electronically without requiring payment of the state fee,  and transmitted to the Electronic Government Information System for placement in the applicant's electronic cabinet . Itwill also be sent to the applicant's email address.

The adopted innovations aim to ensure that life-event-based migration services are organized in a more agile, accessible and citizen-oriented manner, as well as to enhance the efficiency of administrative procedures by simplifying them.
