The delegation also includes staff members of Permanent Mission of our country to the United Nations, headed by the Permanent Representative Tofig Musayev.
The International Migration Review Forum is the main global event on migration held once every four years. The purpose of this intergovernmental platform is to review the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM), to discuss achievements and gaps. The Forum also defines perspectives for migration governance for the next four years. At the event, governments, international organizations, civil society, and other stakeholders exchange views on how to ensure more effective and inclusive management of global migration processes.
As a result of the activities carried out by our country in the field of migration at various levels, the Republic of Azerbaijan, in its capacity as the Co‑Chair of the Champion Countries Initiative for the implementation of the GCM for 2026, will deliver a joint statement on behalf of the states that have joined the Initiative, as well as present a national statement.
On the first day of the Forum, the Republic of Azerbaijan was entrusted, by the President of the UN General Assembly, with the co‑chairmanship of one of the four roundtables, which serve as the main platforms for discussing the implementation status of the objectives of the GCM. Eight countries in total co‑chair the roundtables.
The Roundtable 1, co‑chaired by Azerbaijan together with the Kingdom of Sweden was dedicated to the implementation of the GCM objectives on minimizing adverse drivers of migration, enhancing availability of regular migration pathways, fair recruitment, screening and referral procedures, skill development and mutual recognition of skills.
Representatives from various countries and international organizations acting as panel speakers, exchanged views on the objectives of the GCM and answered questions from the participants during the Roundtable 1.
At the conclusion of the roundtables, the summary of the Roundtable 1 will be presented by Vusal Huseynov, Chief of the State Migration Service within the policy debate to be chaired by the International Organization for Migration.
