Chief of the State Migration Service Vusal Huseynov held bilateral meetings within International Migration Review Forum

A meeting was held between Vusal Huseynov, Chief of the State Migration Service, and Jonathan Prentice, Head of the Secretariat of the UN Network on Migration within the framework of the first International Migration Review Forum held at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York, on May 17, 2022.

The Chief of the Service noted that Azerbaijan is the first country in the Southeast Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia identified as a "Champion Country" by the UN Network on Migration, an event was held at the initiative of Azerbaijan, Luxembourg and Portugal with the participation of 56 member states of the UN Economic Commission for Europe within preparations for the Forum in February of the current year, as well as gave information about the voluntary report submitted by Azerbaijan on the implementation of the Global Compact for Migration. They also talked about the UN Network on Migration established in Azerbaijan and its future activities.

Mr. Prentice highly appreciated the activity of Azerbaijan regarding the Global Compact for Migration and expressed his gratitude for support of Azerbaijan in the frame of the preparations for the first International Migration Review Forum in the history.

Bilateral meetings were held with the Minister of Labor, Migration and Employment of Population the Republic of Tajikistan Ms. Amonzoda Shirin and the Chairman of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan Mr. Atagarayev Nazar at the request of the opposite side in the framework of the Forum. During the meetings discussions were held on the current cooperation between Azerbaijan and the aforementioned countries, as well as perspectives of future cooperation in the frame of the Regional Training Center on Migration established in Azerbaijan and covering 13 countries of the region.
