The third periodic report of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the “International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families” presented

The report has been presented in a virtual format in Geneva, Switzerland, as part of the 33rd session of the UN Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.

Our country was represented by a delegation led by the Chief of the State Migration Service, II rank state migration service counselor Vusal Huseynov. The delegation included representatives of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population, as well as the State Migration Service.

In his opening speech, V.Huseynov stressed the importance of the Convention and other international documents to which our country is a party in the field of protection of the rights of foreigners and stateless persons living in our country. He noted that our government is interested in further development of international cooperation in this area.

Furthermore, the Chief of the Service underlined that our ancient lands were liberated from occupation under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the brave Azerbaijani Army during the 44-day Patriotic War. He noted that new realities have emerged in the region to ensure human rights and to improve welfare, as well as to develop cooperation. Moreover, V.Huseynov informed about the steps taken to develop the legal framework and organizational mechanism in connection with the implementation of the Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Their Family Members in, as well as living in our country.

During the two-day event, a dialogue was held on the relevant articles and recommendations of the Convention. The Azerbaijani delegation answered the questions.

It must be noted that the UN Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, currently represented by 14 countries, will soon submit recommendations to the Azerbaijani government on the periodic report, as well as the constructive dialogue.
