The Agreement signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development on the status of the organization in Azerbaijan

Delivering a speech at the virtual signing ceremony Chief of the State Migration Service Vusal Huseynov has stressed that the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) is one of the key international partners of the Service. He highlighted the effective cooperation established between the two institutions following the Cooperation Agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and ICMPD in 2006. Vusal Huseynov also talked about the successful outcomes achieved within the “Support to the implementation of Mobility Partnership with Azerbaijan (MOBILAZE)” project and the “Reintegration Support to Azerbaijani Returnees (RESTART)” project realized jointly with ICMPD, and expressed his assurance that these results will be followed up in the framework of the new project developed in accordance with the needs.

The Chief of the Service stressed that the liberation of the ancient Azerbaijani lands by our Victorious Army as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War is a turning point in the fate of hundreds of thousands of refugees and internally displaced persons and creates new opportunities for cooperation in the region. He expressed his assurance that the establishment of ICMPD Representation in Azerbaijan in accordance with the Agreement will contribute to better coordination of joint efforts and new initiatives in this direction.

Director General of ICMPD Michael Spindelegger expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation established within the implemented projects and in the framework of the Budapest and Prague processes, in which the organization performs the function of the Secretariat. He also congratulated the employees of the migration bodies on the occasion of upcoming professional holiday.

Later, the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) on the status of ICMPD in the Republic of Azerbaijan was signed. The Agreement was signed on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan by Chief of the State Migration Service Vusal Huseynov in accordance with the relevant Decree of the President, and on behalf of ICMPD by Director General of the organisation Michael Spindelegger. The document is important in terms of contributing to the deepening cooperation of Azerbaijan with ICMPD and the European Union, as well as increasing the country's access to international assistance tools.
