A Working Group started its work to eliminate statelessness in the territory of the country
The first online meeting of the "Working Group on Statelessness", coordinated by the State Migration Service held today.
The working group includes the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Security Service, the Foreign Intelligence Service, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) and the UNHCR Representative in Azerbaijan.
Speaking at the first meeting, Rza Talibov, Chief of the Citizenship Issues Head Department of the State Migration Service, III rank state migration service counselor, informed about the objectives of the Working Group and the work done to reduce statelessness established on the instructions of the Cabinet of Ministers. He expressed confidence that the Working Group will take the necessary measures for identification and documentation of stateless persons in the country.
At the online event, Oktavian Mohorea, Head of the Law Department of the UNHCR Representative in Azerbaijan, also made a presentation on "Statelessness".
Then, discussions were held on the necessary measures to eliminate statelessness, as well as to raise awareness in this area. The draft rules of procedure of the Working Group were considered.
