The Chief of State Migration Service met with the delegation of the UNHCR
The Chief of State Migration Service, Vusal Huseynov met with the Regional Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the South Caucasus, Johannes van der Klaauw and the newly appointed representative of the organization to Azerbaijan, Guido Ambroso in the headquarters of the Service.
At the meeting, which was of an introductory nature views was exchanged on the current situation and future prospects of bilateral relations.
V.Huseynov gave a detailed information to the guests about the activity directions and implemented innovations of the Service. He spoke about cooperation between SMS and the UNHCR office in Azerbaijan, as one of the competent authorities on granting refugee status to foreigners, reception of these persons, their accommodation and other related issues. He stated that foreigners and stateless persons granted refugee status or applied to obtain such status in Azerbaijan have been treated with special sensitivity and care. He also noted that the legislation has been developed for them to fully exercise their rights and freedoms and the relevant work has been done for futher improvement.
Expressing his gratitude to the Chief of the Service for the sincere meeting, UNHCR Regional Representative for the South Caucasus Johannes van der Klaauw highlighted that they are interested in the further development of relations. He highly appreciated the activities of the SMS in the field of elimination of statelessness, as well as the integration of refugees and the creation of a working group dealing with the issues persons belonging to this vulnerable category by the participation of state bodies.
The newly appointed representative of the organization to Azerbaijan, Guido Ambroso expressed confidence that the joint efforts carried out by the State Migration Service would be sustainable and mentioned that he will spare his efforts for the development of relations.
At the meeting the sides exchanged their views on other issues of mutual interest.
