Citizenship issues are one of the main human rights issues

State Migration Service held regional conferences within the framework of “Human rights month” at Ganja and Yevlakh cities.

The purpose of the events on “Citizenship issues are one of the main human rights issues” is the elimination of statelessness and organization of  awareness raising events in this area.

At the conference held in Ganja participated authorized representatives of the City Executive Power, judicial authorities, passport and registration offices of police departments, municipal members and executive representatives of administrative territorial entity, academia and public representatives, foreigners and stateless persons.  

Chief of Nizami District Executive Authority of Ganja City Nizami Hajiyev opened the conference and highlighted the importance of activities, meetings, as well as the work done by the State Migration Service for the purpose of legal enlightenment of public in migration field and documentation of stateless persons.

Chief of the Citizneship Issues Head Department of State Migration Service, III rank state migration service counselor Rza Talibov primarily talked about the activity directions of the Service. Afterwards he informed about the measures taken for strengthening human rights protection in our country. He stated that ensuring human rights and freedoms is one of the supreme principles of state policy. All the measures taken in Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev are aimed to protect the rights of every citizen of the country. It was noted that State Migration Service’s participation in citizenship issues was ensured according to the Presidential Decree of March 6, 2008. 

It was noted that according to the relevant orders of the President of Azerbaijan, 2257 people have been admitted to Azerbaijani citizenship and citizenship of 68 persons have been restored since 2008. 1529 of the persons admitted to citizenship, and 44 of those whose citizenship has been restored are stateless persons.    

Moreover, until May 1, 2018  105,38  person’ citizenship of the Republic of the Republic of Azerbaijan have been established by the Service, and they have been provided with identification documents of the citizen of the country by the relevant state bod.

It was emphasized that for the documentation of stateless persons and foreigners illegally living in the service area of Ganja regional migration department it is important to strengthen cooperation with local executive bodies.

Afterwards discussions were held around the topics.

On the same day mobile service was organized for documentation of  foreigners and stateless persons living in the service area of Ganja regional migration department.

At the conference organized by State Migration Service in Yevlakh participated authorized officials from various government agencies, public representatives, foreigners and stateless persons.

Chief of the Citizenship Issues Head Department of State Migration Service Rza Talibov gave information about the purpose and importance of the conference. He emphasized that protection of human rights and freedoms in our country is one of the most important tasks facing the state. He emphasized that the complex measures of State Migration Service in the direction of elimination of statelessness in the republic, Azerbaijan’s  accession to the UNHCR campaign "to end statelessness in 10 years"  and significant work done in the field of fighting against statelessness.

 It has been noted that Regional Migration Department  and Detention Center for Illegal Migrants of State Migration Service operates in Yevlakh.

 The questions were answered at the end of the conference.

After the conference mobile service was organized for documentation of  foreigners and stateless persons living in the service area of Yevlakh regional migration department.
