The UN Migration Network was established by the United Nations, which supports the implementation, monitoring and review of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, to ensure effective, timely and coordinated support to Member States. The network operates under the UN system-wide approach. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the coordinator and secretary of the UN Migration Network. The UN Migration Network can be established in UN Member States and at the regional level.
The UN Migration Network in Azerbaijan was established in July 2020. In addition to gaining new knowledge, skills, experience and other benefits, the network is expected to be a useful tool for sharing information, data on migration and best practices of Azerbaijan with other states. The Secretary of the UN Migration Network in Azerbaijan is the IOM Office in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Head of the IOM Office in the Republic of Azerbaijan are the co-chairs of the Network. Representatives of relevant government agencies, international organizations, civil society, NGOs, higher education institutions, diplomatic missions and other stakeholders of Azerbaijan participated in two coordination meetings of the Network.
