Awareness raising event held in Khachmaz and Shaki on the occasion of 10th anniversary of State Migration Service

Migration processes in the world, rules for use of foreign labor force in our country, measures taken on fight against illegal migration, elimination of statelessness cases were talked at the awareness raising events, explanatory talk was conducted on the novelties in the migration legislation.

Officials of Headquarter and regional migration department of the Service delivered speeches at the meeting held with participation of representatives of state agencies, educational and health workers and society at the meeting hall of Khachmaz Museum of History and Regional Studies. It was noted that migration policy are one of the factors which have direct impact on security of the country. Today the Service and its 6 regional migration departments operate at full capacity as a result of attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev who 10 years ago by highly appreciating these points signed a decree on establishment of State Migration Service which is the central executive body implementing state policy in migration sphere.

The condition created for foreigners and stateless persons in our country was discussed. It was mentioned that Detention centers for illegal migrants complying with modern standards operate in Baku and Yevlakh.

Information was given about the measures taken by the Service on harmonization of national legislation regulating relations with stateless person to the international documents which The Republic of Azerbaijan is a party to, in general in the direction of elimination of statelessness cases and organization of several meetings in the regions. It was stated that affiliation of more than 100 thousand persons to the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan was investigated by the Service and the citizenship of 70 994 persons was established and they were provided with identity documents of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan by relevant state authorities.

Novelties in the migration legislation were discussed at the meeting held with students, faculties of the university and representatives of society for the purpose of enlightenment of population about migration legislation and 10th anniversary of establishment of State Migration Service at the Shaki Branch of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. Meeting participant were informed about the works done by State Migration Service which implements the competences of unified state body on “one-stop-shop” principle in the areas of regulation and management of migration processes in our country on the issues like foreigners and stateless persons’ registration upon place of stay, extension of temporary staying period, issuance and extension of permits for temporary and permanent residence and work permits, citizenship issues, establishment of citizenship. Legalization of stay and residence of foreigners visiting the country in our Republic was emphasized as the requirement of the legislation. The results gained in fight against illegal migration were mentioned.
