Awareness raising events held by Lankaran Regional Migration Department  

Awareness raising events were held in Jalilabad district and Lankaran State University which is included to the service area of Lankaran Regional Migration Department on occasion of 10th anniversary of the establishment of State Migration Service.

At the events held with the participation of competent representatives of Regional Migration Department of the Service, executive authority and local municipality of the district, education and healthcare workers, students, foreigners and stateless persons detailed information was given about significant growth in number of foreigners arriving Azerbaijan as a result of comprehensive development of the country in a short period of time, protection of stability and security in the country, as well as regulation of migration processes with flexible and efficient mechanisms, activity directions and services of State Migration Service. It was stated that SMS has taken several important measures for the purposes of harmonizing migration legislation with modern requirements and its facilitation since the establishment of the Service.

It was also brought into attention that since April 1, 2013 when registration upon place of stay was entrusted to the State Migration Service 2.560.767 foreigners and stateless persons who entered the republic were registered upon place of stay according to their staying period in the country.  It was mentioned that even though to receive and consider so many applications is not as easy as it sounds, professional staff of such a mobile entity successfully manages these issues. 

It was emphasized that State Migration Service conducts record of foreigners and stateless persons residing and temporarily staying in Azerbaijan via Unified Migration Information System (UMIS), as well. UMIS created suitable condition for taking relevant measures in the fields of fight against illegal migration and provision of security by allowing to have complete picture on dynamics of migration processes in the country. The Republic of Azerbaijan has acceded to UNHCR campaign “To end statelessness in 10 years” for the purposes of raising awareness in the sphere of fighting against statelessness and strengthening cooperation for handling the problems occurred during determination process of their legal status and efficient protection of their rights. As a result of measures taken by SMS since 2008 1871 persons adopted and 58 persons restored the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Besides, the affiliation of more than 100 thousand persons to the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan was investigated and the citizenship of 70 994 persons was established and they were provided with identity documents of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan by relevant state authorities.

The information about the services rendered in ASAN service centers and the activities of regional migration departments was also delivered at the events.
