Awareness raising events were launched on the occasion of 10th anniversary of the establishment of State Migration Service  

Awareness raising events and meetings on the occasion of 10th anniversary of the establishment of State Migration Service are organized in cities and districts which fall within the service area of Regional Migration Departments. The competent representatives of Regional Migration Departments of the Service, executive authorities and local municipalities of districts, education and healthcare workers, as well as heads of enterprises and organizations, entrepreneurs, foreigners and stateless persons are participating at the events.

One of these events was held in Liman city which falls within the service area of Lankaran Regional Migration Department. At the meeting information was given on rapid socio-economic development of Azerbaijan during the last years, how our republic has become an attractive country for migrants as a result of stability and safety established, the establishment date of State Migration Service, its activity directions, achievements gained during the last 10 years by the Service. It was mentioned that as a result of care and attention of the head of state excellent service condition was established not only in the headquarter of Service, but also Regional Migration Departments functioning with full power. State Migration Service considering as a first state agency which foreigners and stateless persons contact with when they enter the country deals with issues related to registration upon place of stay, extension of temporary staying period, issuance of permissions for temporary and permanent residence, adoption, restoration and revocation of citizenship, establishment of citizenship and determination of refugee status, moreover issuance of work permits in order to carry out labor activity and extension of periods of existing ones, analysis, forecast, and monitoring of migration processes, as well as fight against illegal migration.

It was noted that Migration Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan attracted the attention of both CIS, European and other states and practice of our country in this field is being learned by those states. State Migration Service controls the date of foreigners’ and stateless persons’ entry to the country, their place of residence and work, as well as the date of exit from the country via Unified Migration Information System (UMIS). It was determined that during the year 2016 2.242.783 entrances by 1.143.951 foreigners and stateless persons and 2.242.788 exits by 1.137.351 foreigners and stateless persons were recorded via UMIS. Moreover, 672.337 foreigners were registered upon place of stay, 51.710 foreigners were granted relevant residence permits and 9.480 persons were issued work permits to carry out paid labor activity in accordance with labor migration quota.  

At the event it was noted that State Migration Service which has the status of law-enforcement agency successfully implements preventive measures against illegal migration, as well. It was mentioned that Service takes necessary steps to prevent shortcomings and abuses in application of migration legislation, as well as cases of infringement of stay and residence rules in the country by foreigners. During only the last year 26.435 cases concerning infringement of requirements of migration legislation by foreigners and stateless persons had been revealed, residence of 2372 of them in the country was legalized with relevant grounds, the implementation of Service’s relevant decisions on 18.540 foreigners to leave the territory of the country in 48 hours and on 5.523 foreigners to be removed in administrative order from the country and to ban the entrance were ensured.

The detailed information on amendments and addendums to the Migration Code and legislation was given to the event participants, as well.

At the end questions interested the participants regarding migration legislation were answered.
