Holiday gifts presented to foreign families with refugee status in Azerbaijan

 

Meeting with the families who were granted refugee status in Azerbaijan was held at State Migration Service on the occasion of the International Solidarity Day of Azerbaijanis and the New Year. Broad information was delivered at the meeting on the achievements of our republic gained under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and on the development of our state, its place and role in the system of international relations. The measures taken in our republic for the protection of rights of foreigners and stateless persons were discussed. Explanatory discussion has been conducted on the legal status of refugees and internally displaced persons.

It was stated that according to the legislation a foreigner or stateless person who lives uninterruptedly for the last 5 years on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan on legal bases, has legal source of income, undertakes obligation on observing Constitution and laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as submits a document certifying his/her knowledge of the state language of Azerbaijan may be admitted to the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan upon his/her own application according to the Law “On the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan” regardless of his/her origin, race and nationality, gender, educational background, religion, political and other convictions. This condition is applied to the persons with refugee status as well, in accordance with the recent amendment to the legislation.

It was also noted that State Migration Service always keeps at the center of attention the issue of the protection of children’s rights who are growing in foreign families with refugee status.

At the end holiday gifts were presented to some families who were granted refugee status in Azerbaijan.

The attendees expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan state and particularly to the head of state for the conditions established for refugees.
