Events were organized on the topic of “Multiculturalism and tolerance- a condition created for foreigners”

At the events organized by Lankaran Regional Migration Department of State Migration Service on the same topic at Astara Pedagogical College, alongside with Masalli State Regional College were, firstly, delivered information about the activity directions of the Service.

Later on a statement was delivered on the topic and it was stated that through the centuries Azerbaijan was known as a territory where different civilizations have intermingled and representatives of separate nations and confessions lived in peace, tranquility, mutual understanding and dialogue. Despite of the occurrences in the world Azerbaijan continues to contribute to the expansion of intercultural dialogue. In general, tolerant attitude towards peculiarities of different nations, nationalities, religions is the main feature of Azerbaijani mentality. Announcement of the year 2016 as “Year of multiculturalism” according to the Order signed by Mr. President once more proves that our state is ruled upon the principle of tolerance. It was pointed out that the President Ilham Aliyev’s phrase of “In our country multiculturalism has become a lifestyle with no alternative” sheds a light on all matters in terms of understanding global importance of this notion and perceiving the multiculturalism conceptually as the only way of future development of mankind and Azerbaijan. 

Considerable increase has been observed in the number of foreigners arriving in our country in recent years. The ones who were traveling to Europe for the vacations now prefer to come to Azerbaijan as a tourist. It is because Azerbaijan is a stable and tolerant country.

It was touched upon at the events that Azerbaijan opens great opportunities for socialization of cultural groups alongside with promoting development of different cultures. The speaker, pointing out the national solidarity and friendship existing among the nations in Azerbaijan as an honor vis-à-vis religious and national clashes, sectarian conflict, interstate distrust which the modern world faces, brought into attention that in 2007 while the current tension regarding migration wasn’t present the President Ilham Aliyev, forecasting the forthcoming processes, established the State Migration Service in order to provide comfortable conditions for migrants in Azerbaijan. At the meetings where the works done in direction of implementation of duties assigned by the Head of State to the Service were broadly looked through it was stated that the Headquarter of the Service and its 8 regional departments have been fully facilitated in terms of carrying out their activities. The functions of Detention centers for illegal migrants located in Baku and Yevlakh and conditions established for the persons settled in those centers have been also discussed.

At the same time, activity of the official website of the Service which was completely modified, modernized in terms of functioning and design and adjusted to modern standards, as well as of (012)919- Call Center which is operating in 3 languages- Azerbaijani, Russian and English for delivering broad information to the community, as well as foreigners and stateless persons in the country are appreciated by the users. Moreover The State Migration Service publishes its quarterly “Migration” analytical- information journal in three languages.

The meetings organized in the regions by State Migration Service and the information delivered at the events was of interest to the professors and students of both colleges.
