Awareness raising event held in Gadabay district  

The event was devoted to works done towards the eradication of statelessness and legalization of illegally residing foreigners and stateless persons.

Firstly, the information on establishment and activity directions of State Migration Service was delivered at the event conducted in Gadabay district which is included to the service area of Ganja regional migration department. The services rendered for foreigners and stateless persons by the agency – registration upon place of stay, issuance of temporary, also permanent residence permission, as well as establishment of the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan, acquisition, restoration and revocation of citizenship and etc. were broadly discussed. It was pointed that only during October of this year 45874 applications for registration upon place of stay were received by State Migration Service. Moreover 2299 cases concerning infringement of requirements of administrative legislation by foreigners and stateless persons without observing rules of stay, temporary and permanent residence in the Republic of Azerbaijan have been revealed. Lost documents of 18 foreigners for temporary or permanent residence were replaced with new ones. 212 of them were fined and their residence in the country was legalized. Decisions were made on 1576 foreigners to leave the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 48 hours and on 493 foreigners to be removed in administrative order from the country.

In total during the month SMS received 10807 applications on extension of temporary staying period, granting temporary and permanent residence permissions, adoption, revocation and restoration of citizenship, as well as establishment of citizenship and determination of refugee status, issuing work permits for carrying out labor activity and extending period of existing work permits from foreigners and stateless persons. Each application was investigated in compliance with the requirements of legislation and relevant decisions were made by State Migration Service which is surrounded with special attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev and where the transparency and efficiency is defined as a major principles of activity.

Discussions on effective results of measures taken by SMS towards the eradication of statelessness and the legalization of foreigners and stateless persons residing in the country illegally, also persons with unidentified citizenship were conducted at the meeting. It was noted that 1626 persons acquired the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan in accordance with relevant Orders of the President of Azerbaijan since 2008 until now. Furthermore, within this period 64 thousand persons’ citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established and they were provided with identification documents of the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan by relevant state authority.

Explanatory discussions about latest amendments in migration legislation were delivered at the event.

The importance of wide-scale measures carried out by State Migration Service towards enlightenment of population in the regions was noticed and questions interesting the event participants were responded.       

Later on mobile service was conducted. 15 persons used the mobile service. 1 of them was presented permission card for temporary residence, 1 person was given a reference on establishment of citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Applications were received from 7 persons about establishment of citizenship, from 1 person regarding the registration upon place of stay.  A list of required documents was presented to 1 person for application on acquisition of the citizenship and to 4 persons for application on establishment of citizenship.
