Meeting at State Migration Service with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in our country

On November 25, Chief of the State Migration Service, II rank state migration service counselor Firudin Nabiyev met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium in our country Bert Schoofs. Service Chief congratulated the guest on appointment as ambassador to our country, talked about measures taken in the direction of developing Azerbaijan- Belgium relations. Existing relations between our countries in trade, investment, education and other fields were touched upon and existence of good potential for strengthening these relations was brought into attention.

Comprehensive information was given about the activity of State Migration Service carrying out the competences of unified state authority in the field of migration management and regulation upon “one stop shop” principle and national migration legislation in Azerbaijan. Thorough discussion was held on conditions created for foreigners in our country, on efficient results of institutional and organizational measures taken related to stay and residence of foreign citizens, as well as, stateless persons arriving in the republic.

The Service chief emphasized the significant opportunities created for efficient functioning of foreign entrepreneurs in Azerbaijan. F.Nabiyev stated that issues related to stay and residence of foreigners who invest in Azerbaijan and carries out entrepreneurship activity, as well as to work permits have been sufficiently simplified in the Code of Migration. This has opened new opportunities for foreigners to start business in Azerbaijan. The Service chief stated that the Belgian entrepreneurs use these opportunities and mentioned the activity and successful practice of Belgian companies in Azerbaijan.

Expressing his gratitude for warm reception Bert Schoofs stated that he has an honor to act as an ambassador in our country. The diplomat emphasized that beauty of our country and Baku, as well as our people’s sincerity has impressed him. The Ambassador appreciated the functioning of unified body in the sphere of migration management in Azerbaijan, at the same time the existence of Migration Code – collection of norms in this sphere. He underlined that during the period of his functioning he will work for expanding and deepening the relations between two countries and will intensify efforts for development of relations in migration sphere as well.

Exchange of opinion on other issues of mutual interest related to migration was also conducted at the meeting.
