Chief of the State Migration Service is on official visit in Vienna
The delegation headed by the Chief of the State Migration Service, II rank state migration service counselor Firudin Nabiyev is on a visit in Vienna for the purpose of attending the Migration Conference organized by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).
Within the framework of the visit F.Nabiyev met with the management of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development, as well as Deputy Director General of the International Organization for Migration Ms. Laura Tompson and Regional Director of the organization on South Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
At the meeting held at İCMPD Chief of the Service, firstly, pointed out efficient implementation of MOBİLAZE project realized by the organization jointly with the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and expressed his hope for opening of ICMPD Baku Office in near future.
Giving broad information about the efficient results of the migration policy in our country, achievements and the work done on the improvement of the migration legislation F.Nabiyev also touched upon the issue of global migration crisis. He stressed the importance of allocating all the resources to deal with and prevent the main root causes of this problem. He also mentioned the importance of the Declaration adopted on 19th September of this year at the high level meeting of UN General Assembly on “Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants” held in New-York.
Speaking about the most principal problem of Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict which emerged as a result of Armenian aggression, Service Chief stated with regret that 4 resolutions adopted by UN Security Council have not been fulfilled yet and emphasized the importance of increasing efforts by international community for peaceful resolution of this conflict which is a serious threat for stability in the region. He added that Azerbaijan with total population of 9.7 million is one of the counties with the biggest burden of displacement for per capita IDPs. Azerbaijani Government has undertaken all the problems of IDPs forced from their homeland. Measures on employment, education, accommodation, medical and social provision of these persons are continuously implemented by Azerbaijani Government on step by step bases with respect to the principle of firstly dealing with families living in worse conditions. During the past period around a hundred modern settlements have been built, accommodation conditions of thousands of refugee and IDP families have been improved.
At the meeting held between the Chief of the State Migration Service Firudin nabiyev and Deputy Director General of International Organization for Migration Ms. Laura Tompson and Regional Director of the organization on South Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia the perspectives of development of high level cooperation established between the State Migration Service and IOM were discussed. The opposite side noted the transformation of Azerbaijan in terms of migration from the country of origin to the country of destination. Emphasis put on the multiculturalism values in Azerbaijan, religious endurance, tolerance, stability and the atmosphere of hospitality were shown as the reasons there of.
A mutual consent on increasing efforts for signing “Cooperation agreement between State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan and International Organization for Migration on Pilot Project on Assistance for the Voluntary Return of Migrants from Azerbaijan “ in near future within the framework of assistance for voluntary return was also expressed at the meeting.
Broad exchange of opinion over the issues of mutual interest was conducted at both meetings.
