State Flag Day celebrated at State Migration Service
The event organized at State Migration Service on the occasion of 9 November – the State Flag Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan started with playing the National Anthem.
Delivering a speech at the event First Deputy Chief of the Service, III rank state migration service counselor Vali Naghiyev stated that throughout the history special approach to the flag which is one of the main state symbols has had a distinct place in the Azerbaijani national mentality and considered as the symbol of national existence of our people. Tricolor State Flag was first adopted on November 9, 1918. It had waved over the state till the April invasion in 1920 and it was prohibited after the collapse of the People’s Republic of Azerbaijan. V.Naghiyev mentioned that the first persistent and patriotic efforts for the restoration and hoisting of our tricolor flag with crescent and star coincides with the period when great leader Heydar Aliyev was the head of Nakhchivan. At that time national leader Heydar Aliyev not remaining indifferent to complicated and contradictory socio-political processes ongoing in the country made unprecedented contributions to the achievement of independence and ensuring national self-consciousness with real patriotism and leadership.
During the session of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on 17 November 1990, at the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev decision was made on recognition of our tricolor flag as the State Flag and a petition was presented to the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan to recognize the tricolor flag as the official state symbol of Azerbaijan. Thus, on February 5, 1991 the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan passed the Law “On the State Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan”. With this Law our glorious tricolor flag was approved as the State Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan and started to wave as the symbol of independence.
It was stated that President Ilham Aliyev which successfully continues the political course of great leader Heydar Aliyev holds the national state attributes high. The Order of Azerbaijani President “On Establishment of the State Flag Square in Baku city, the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan” dated from November 17, 2007 determines the special place of the State Flag among state symbols. Starting from 2010 every year November 9 is celebrated as the State Flag Day in our republic in compliance with the Order on establishment of the State Flag Day signed by President Ilham Aliyev on November 17, 2009.
It was underlined that the State Flag of Azerbaijan waving with pride in the heights strengthens national self-consciousness and independence ideas, as well as solidarity sentiments of the people.
The event ended with the demonstration of the documentary film dedicated to the State Flag.
