Event on “Importance of raising awareness of migration process’s stakeholders about their rights and duties in prevention of illegal migration” held in Aghdam district

Heads of law enforcement bodies, as well as representatives from city, settlement and village administrative territorial units of the Aghdam district, foreigners and stateless persons and public representatives participated in the event organized by State Migration Service at Cultural Palace in Guzanly settlement with the purpose of raising awareness of the people in the field of migration legislation. 

At the event Deputy Chief of Yevlakh Regional Migration Department, migration service counselor Aydin Aliyev delivered a speech on “Importance of raising awareness of migration process’s stakeholders about their rights and duties in prevention of illegal migration”.

He stated that as Great Leader Heydar Aliyev said: ““People live where they feel better, where they can live better, where they can obtain better facilities for their families. These are all natural human qualities”. Today we can say proudly that Azerbaijan entered to the list of such states. Political, economic and social development dynamics, successful realization of grand transnational energy and transportation projects, stability and tranquility established in our country under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev turned Azerbaijan to the leader of the region and our republic has become an attractive place for foreigners.

It was brought into attention that 67.648 applications regarding registration upon place of stay of foreigners were received by the Service only during the month of September.   

 It was mentioned that according to relevant Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan State Migration Service has been implementing the competences of unified state authority upon “one-stop-shop” principle since July 1, 2009. It serves to regulation of migration processes on the basis of unified and flexible procedures, facilitation of documentation.

Today several services are rendered by SMS, also at ASAN service centers which is Azerbaijani brand. Applications are received on temporary and permanent residence of foreigners and stateless persons in our country, as well as granting work permits for carrying out paid labor activity and determination of the person’s affiliation to citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Detailed information on digitalization of 11 services of SMS met with interest by participants.

Later employee of Citizenship Issues Head Department, II rank migration service employee Sahib Ismayilov made a speech. He informed that relevant legislative base has been established in the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding eradication of statelessness and fight against root causes of these cases, protection of the rights of stateless persons by taking into account the requirements of international legal norms.

He talked about measures taken by SMS towards eradication of statelessness in the country.

He noted that criminal responsibility is envisaged for not giving written information to the relevant executive body within a month by the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan who voluntarily accepted the citizenship of a foreign state. From July 1, 2014 persons who accepted the citizenship of other state should give information to State Migration Service if they are in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan or to the diplomatic representations of the Republic of Azerbaijan if they are abroad. Otherwise, those persons are punished with the fine the amount from 3 thousand to 5 thousand manats or public works from 360 hours to 480 hours.
