Chief of State Migration Service met Director General of International Organization for Migration in Geneva
Chief of State Migration Service, II rank state migration service counselor Firudin Nabiyev had a meeting with Director General of International Organization for Migration (IOM) William Lacy Swing in the frame of visit to Geneva for participation in 67th session of UN High Commissionaire for Refugees (UNHCR)Executive Committee.
Recalling his visit to our country last year William Lacy Swing pointed out that he witnessed stability and progressive migration management model established in the Republic of Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, as well as significance attached to multicultural values. He touched upon perspectives of developing high level cooperation between State Migration Service and IOM Mission in Azerbaijan and stated that in the frame of voluntary return “Cooperation Agreement between State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan and International Organization for Migration on Implementation of Pilot Project to Assist Voluntary Return of Migrants from Azerbaijan” is planned to be signed by the end of the current year.
Drawing attention to the fact that throughout history no conflict on racial, national and religious ground was recorded in Azerbaijan which is making preparations to mark 25th anniversary of restoration of independence Chief of State Migration Service Firudin Nabiyev mentioned that in this respect our republic is an example for the whole world.
Speaking about the most principal problem of Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict which emerged as a result of Armenian aggression, F.Nabiyev stated with regret that 4 resolutions adopted by UN Security Council has not been fulfilled yet and emphasized importance of increasing efforts by international community for peaceful resolution of this conflict which a serious threat for stability in the region.
Furthermore, at the meeting, where discussion were held on high level organization of V Baku International Humanitarian Forum held in Azerbaijan recently, the special attention attached to this forum by the state was appreciated as an example of commitment to humanism principles in the country.
Moreover, it was underlined that the words “Religious freedoms have been fully ensured in your country” expressed by Pope Francis at the meeting with President Ilham Aliyev during his visit to Azerbaijan is expression of friendly and tolerant attitude towards all religions and peoples in our republic.
Opinion exchange was carried out on other issues of mutual interest at the meeting.
