The 19th meeting of the Council of Heads of Migration Bodies of member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Baku

On October 12, Mr. Fuad Aleskerov, Head of the Department on work with law-enforcement bodies of the Presidential Administration made a speech at the 19th meeting of the Council of Heads of Migration Bodies of CİS member states held in Baku. He stated that present intensive migration processes in the world is actual both for the whole world and CIS countries. Mr. F.Aleskerov mentioned the significance of developing new approaches to the migration policy in both national and international levels. Head of department reminded that as a result of occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia Azerbaijan was the first country in CIS region which faced refugees and IDPs problem.

Chair of the CIS Executive Committee- Executive secretary Sergei Lebedev expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijani leadership for standing support to the activities of the CIS. Mr. S.Lebedev mentioned that 25 years have passed since the establishment of CIS. Executive Secretary highlighted that CIS has proved itself as an international and regional union and brought into attention the importance of discussion of migration issues in CIS region.       

Chief of State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, II rank state migration service counselor Mr. Firudin Nabiyev stated that collaboration with international organizations, as well as bilateral and multilateral cooperation with relevant bodies of different countries in migration sphere is of great importance. He mentioned that great success has been achieved within CIS in the field of joint action, coordination and understanding for settling migration problems and other significant issues.    

Chair of the Standing commission of CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, deputy of Milli Mejlis Mr. Arif Rahimzadeh emphasized that great experience in the field of regulating migration processes was gained and a legal base for providing joint activity of competent bodies of the Union in migration sphere and regulating major directions of migration policy was developed in CİS. Mr. A. Rahimzadeh pointed out that Azerbaijan is the first country which accepted Migration Code.

First deputy minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Mr. Alexander Gorovoy was elected as the chairman of the Council. Mr. A Gorovoy declared in his speech that the agenda contains 18 issues.

Later on members of the Council discussed situation of migration in the Commonwealth countries and implementation of “2015-2019 Cooperation program of CIS member states on combatting illegal migration” in 2015.
