A meeting was held at State Migration Service

Chief of State Migration Service II rank state migration service counselor Mr. Firudin Nabiyev met with project manager of International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and leader of “Support to the Implementation of the Mobility Partnership with Azerbaijan (MOBILAZE)” project Ms. Violeta Wagner on September 7.

The purpose of the meeting was exchange of views on updates related with implementation of the project and achieved results.

F.Nabiyev stated  that State Migration Servicewhich pays special attention to international cooperation in migration sphere,  is interested in effective implementation of the “Support to the Implementation of the Mobility Partnership with Azerbaijan (MOBILAZE)” project which is implemented in the framework of “Joint Declaration on a Mobility Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the European Union and its Participating Member States” signed in Brussels on December 5, 2013. He also emphasized necessity of delivering information about upcoming activities in advance for undertaking relevant coordination measures. Service Chief mentioned that State Migration Service employees will take active part in further events to be organized within the project and comprehensive support will be provided to the implementation of the project.

Ms. Wagner firstly emphasized significance of the cooperation with State Migration Service as one of the main partners of the project. She stated successful organization of summer school during June and July within Component 1 and expressed her gratitude for active participation of the employees of State Migration Service in the event. Furthermore, she noted that pilot curriculum on migration was drafted together with Baku State University.

Ms. Wagner informed that currently an expert mission is in Azerbaijan within Component 2 and meetings are planned with a number of authorities.

She stated that a workshop will be held in the second half of October in the framework of Component 3 which is related with capacity building of Azerbaijani authorities in the area of document security. F.Nabiyev stressed that structural units of State Migration service are functioning at the border check points of our country and in some cases fraudulent documents have been revealed by the Service employees, therefore the Service is interested in participation in this component.

Violeta Wagner expressed that a number of meetings with Refugee Status Determination Department of the Service have been held within Component 4 and they are satisfied with the activity in the framework of this component.

She noted continuation of works on needs assessment within Component 5, as well.

Service chief also touched upon the issue related to provision of not direct, but indirect assistance to the persons who are returned in the framework of “Agreement between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the European Union on the Readmission of the Persons Residing without Authorization” by the International Center for Migration Policy Development or other organizations. It was underlined that the state provides relevant support to the persons in this category; however allocation of some aid within the project may contribute to effective implementation of 5th component.

Ms. Wagner stated that the works are ongoing in this direction.

In the end, participation of State Migration Service in other initiatives implemented by ICMPD was discussed.
