State Migration Service held a number of events on the occasion of 18 June – Human Rights Day

Events on topics such as human rights and freedoms were held in the regions included in service area of regional migration departments according to the “Plan of Actions” approved by Chief of State Migration Service in the frame of human rights month which continued from May18 to June 18 on the occasion of 18 June – Human Rights Day which is marked every year with the Order of President Ilham Aliyev.

At the event on “Rights and freedoms of foreigners and stateless persons in tolerant and multicultural society” held in Goygol which is included in service area of Ganja Regional Migration Department of State Migration Service with the participation of public members of the region, as well as foreigners and stateless persons Chief of Head Department of the Service, senior migration service counselor Vahid Gahramanov mentioned that steps taken by President Ilham Aliyev towards development of multicultural relations in Azerbaijan has sustainable character. Announcement of the year 2016 as “Year of multiculturalism” according to the Order signed by Mr. President once more proves that our state is ruled according to principle of tolerance.

During the speeches it was emphasized that Great Leader Heydar Aliyev called Azerbaijan native land of the representatives of various nations irrespective of nationality and religion. Today everyone arriving in our country from all continents of the world feels himself/herself very comfortable in Azerbaijan. State Migration Service in its activity utilizes all possible and progressive means to ensure comfortable and legal residence of foreigners and stateless persons in Azerbaijan.

Event on “Identification and legalization of stateless persons in the context of expanding human rights and freedoms” in Gobustan which is included in service area of Aghsu Regional Migration Department with the participation of representatives of the public members of the region, as well as foreigners and stateless persons was met with interest by the participants.   

Employee of the Citizenship Issues Head Department delivered speech at the meeting. It was stated that for the purpose of raising awareness in the sphere of fight against statelessness and resolving problems arising from determination of legal status of these persons, as well as strengthening cooperation for efficient protection of their rights the Republic of Azerbaijan acceded to UNHCR campaign “To end statelessness in 10 years”. State Migration Service is carrying out serious activities in the sphere of fight against statelessness in the Republic of Azerbaijan according to the requirements of international conventions to which our country is a party to. A number of measures have been taken for eradication of statelessness, as well as identification of foreigners majority of whom have come to our country since 90’s of the last century and affiliated to citizenship of various states in different regions of our country, including Khilmilli village of Gobustan region. It was identified that some of them illegally resided on the territory of the country for many years. Relevant explanatory activities are continued in the regions and legal assistance is provided to them in order such people could get relevant residence permits. Moreover, relevant activities are implemented for identification and documentation of persons who reside with former Soviet passport and whose citizenship has not been established. Activities carried out in this direction are yielding positive results. Speaker appreciated this expedient policy as an example of humanist nature of Azerbaijani state.

Questions interesting members of the public who participated in the events on topics propagating human rights and encompassing various groups of the population were answered by authorized employees of State Migration Service.
