On March 18 oath ceremony of persons who acquired and restored the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held at State Migration Service
At oath ceremony chief of State Migration Service II rank state migration service counselor, Firudin Nabiyev congratulated persons who acquired and restored the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan according to the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev issued on the eve of Novruz Holiday preserving our national spirit and memory with its all richness as a reflection of Azerbaijani people’s higher esteem to their historical-cultural past and commitment to national and spiritual values.
F. Nabiyev talked about successes achieved as a result of implemented reforms during previous years in Azerbaijan, which turned to a leading state in the region according to development strategy founded by Great Leader Heydar Aliyev. He also spoke about contribution made to world’s political, economic and cultural environment by our republic as equal member of international community which is perceived as a model of tolerance, where stability is highly provided and multicultural values are leading. He comprehensively spoke of conditions set for foreigners and stateless persons in our country vis-à-vis migration crisis, inhuman treatment upon people expatriated as a result of external intervention in Europe where human rights always were broadly talked about. He highlighted with concrete facts that at the end of 80s and beginning of 90s of last century more than 1 million compatriots became forced migrants, our newly independent country shouldered this heavy burden alone and carried fundamental measures in direction of improving social, welfare and accommodation conditions of those people. It was mentioned that double-standards seriously damage political, economic, even cultural environment of globalizing world. Chief of Service stated that factors like political stability, existing security environment in our country, works done in sphere of protection of migrants’ rights and liberties, as well as geopolitical location of our country, extent of transit possibilities, residence of different people and nations, possessors of separate religions, languages together in peace, and continuation of development speed of our republic due to President Ilham Aliyev’s farsight regardless of world economic crisis increases interest to our country in abroad. All mentioned facts positively affect year-by-year increase of number of persons willing to live, work, study in Azerbaijan and specially to become a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as tendency of return of Azerbaijani citizens who left the republic for other countries hitherto.
It was stated that, according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated from March 6, 2008 the participation of State Migration Service in citizenship issues was provided. Since then State Migration Service is carrying out processing of requests, surveys and applications made by individuals and various organizations related to acquisition, restoration, revocation of the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as, establishment of the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
At the meeting steps taken in the direction of eradicating statelessness in our country was touched upon. It was stated that since then 1434 persons acquired Azerbaijani citizenship with the relevant orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Besides, 36 467 persons’ citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been established and they have been provided with identification documents of the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan by relevant state body.
Chief of Service mentioned that it is important fact that the meeting with the persons honored to become a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan coincides with Holiday of Novruz, 9th establishment anniversary of State Migration Service and professional holiday of migration bodies’ employees.
Then 147 persons obtained and 5 persons restored the citizenship solemnly swear an oath on the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan in front of the State Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan in state language of the Republic of Azerbaijan about being loyal to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
It should be noted that oath is conducted according to the amended article 15-1 of the “Law on the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan” added on December 30, 2014. Let’s remind that swearing citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan signs text of oath and this document is reserved at state Migration Service.
