State Migration Service held public awareness event in Sabirabad  

Awareness raising events are continued in accordance with Action Plan which was approved on the eve of establishment anniversary of the State Migration Service Foreigners and stateless persons, country citizens, relevant state agencies, public organizations, employers, representatives of entrepreneurs participated in the public awareness event held in Sabirabad which is included in the service area of Shirvan Regional Migration Department. Representative of State Migration Service gave detailed information about state policy in the field of migration, management and regulation of migration processes in our country.  He drew attention to amendments and addendums made to migration legislation. Necessity of timely application of parents to State Migration Service in order to legalize residence and to get permit for temporary residence in the territory of the country for foreign students studying at secondary schools of the Republic of Azerbaijan for not facing challenges during graduation and entrance exams was brought into attention with concrete facts. It was mentioned that in order to ensure satisfaction of applicants, activity of 8 regional migration departments of the Service, surrounded by care and attention of the President Ilham Aliyev, is fully provided.

At the event detailed information was presented regarding activities carried out on citizenship issues, dual citizenship problem and statelessness. It was specially emphasized that citizens who voluntarily accepted the citizenship of foreign country should provide the relevant executive body with written information according to the Law “On Citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan”. The person should inform State Migration Service about this if he/she is in the territory of the republic or Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan if he/she is abroad. Sample of application has been placed in the official website of the State Migration Service – www.migration.gov.az . Persons who do not present relevant information are fined in the amount from 3 thousand to 5 thousand manats or with public works from 360 hours to 480 hours according to Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The abovementioned concerns the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who accepted citizenship of foreign country since July 1, 2014.

At the meeting where measures taken against illegal migration was broadly discussed, it was stated that during January 1.569 cases concerning infringement of requirements of administrative legislation by foreigners and stateless persons were revealed and relevant measures were taken. Representative of the Service emphasized that every foreigner and stateless person, as well as employer willing to use foreign labor force must observe requirements of the legislation.

The protection of rights of every foreigner and stateless person who legalize his/her stay and residence in the country is the priority of State Migration Service. Therefore every foreign citizen who visits our republic should get registered in time. Last year in total State Migration Service received 105.550 applications, as well as the Call Center of the Service received 99.439 phone calls from foreigners and stateless persons on extension of temporary staying period in the country, issuance of permits for temporary and permanent residence, admission to, revocation or restoration of citizenship, as well as establishment of citizenship and determination of refugee status, issuance of work permits for carrying out labor activity and extension of the existed ones. Moreover, 670.326 foreigners from those who entered the republic last year were registered upon place of stay in line with their period of stay.
