Experts of the project “Support to Integrated Border Management Systems in South Caucasus (SCIBM)” visited State Migration Service

On June 13, 2012 Chief of the State Migration Service, III rank state migration service counselor Firudin Nabiyev received delegation including the experts from Germany, France, Latvia, Slovenia of the project “Support to Integrated Border Management Systems in South Caucasus”, as well as experts of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development.

During the meeting Service chief Firudin Nabiyev gave information about the activity of the State Migration Service, brought to attention improvement of migration legislation in accordance with international norms and requirements of modern period.

ICMPD Program leader on border management Borut Erzen stated that the key objective of the program is to develop interagency cooperation in the sphere of border management, to enhance the level of bilateral and regional cooperation with neighboring countries, as well as European Union countries and relevant international organizations, to facilitate movement of persons and goods across borders through carrying out pilot projects of Azerbaijan with Georgia, ensuring border security, improving national legislation and maintaining secure borders.

Service chief F. Nabiyev notified that the security of the state begins from borders and growth of foreigners’ inflow is observed in Azerbaijan as a result of rapid economic development in recent years. For this reason stressing the necessity for improvement of border management system and establishment of operative border management F. Nabiyev highly appreciated Service employees’ acquisition of international experience via close participation in the trainings held within this project.

Borut Erzen mentioned that during the last 3 years in which the project has been realized positive changes have been observed and efficiency was provided in border crossing points.

Perspectives of bilateral cooperation were discussed, questions arising interest of experts were answered at the end.
