Several events related with the 22nd anniversary of 20 January incidents were held at the State Migration Service

On January 19, 2012 several events related with the 22nd anniversary of 20 January incidents were held at the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan Republic.

At first Service employees got acquainted with the exhibition dedicated to beloved memory of 20 January tragedy victims.

Speaking in the ceremony beginning with one minute’s silence in remembrance of martyrs Deputy chief of the Service, III rank state migration service counselor Parviz Musayev noted that 20 January massacre which is one of the bloodiest acts of terrorism perpetrated by totalitarianism in XX century is a terrible crime directed against Azerbaijani people, humanism and mankind. Besides, that horrible night entered our history not only as a tragedy, but also as a day of Azerbaijani people’s steadiness and heroism of national freedom movement. On the night from January 19 to January 20 hundreds of our sons and daughters proved to the world their ability to stand unarmed before Soviet troops armed to the teeth. On that day our people exposed to military, political and moral aggression of the Soviet regime once again demonstrated its loyalty to heroism traditions.

It was stated that Great Leader Heydar Aliyev was the first person to react strictly to this bloody incident committed by merciless Soviet military machine.   On January 21, 1990 putting his life and the life of his relatives in danger Nation-wide Leader came to the permanent representation of Azerbaijan in Moscow, made a statement before Azerbaijanis and foreign journalists, denounced Mikhael Gorbachov’s hostile policy towards our people, called bravely criminal those who committed this tragedy. Great Leader Heydar Aliyev considered this incident against the law, democracy, humanism and the legal state establishment principles declared in the USSR. As a result of the political will of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev information blockade was broken. Only after Nation-wide Leader Heydar Aliyev’s return to power at the persistent request of the people legal and political assessment to 20 January tragedy was given, reasons of this serious crime perpetrated against our people were investigated and the names of the criminals were announced.

Later it was underlined that freedom and independency ideas for the sake of which martyrs’ blood was shed were made a reality by Heydar Aliyev’s establishment policy. As a result of the foresighted domestic and foreign policy state establishment was expanded, economy began to revive, a strong army was formed, our voice on Nagorno-Karabakh began to be heard in the international arena. Today this policy is implemented dynamically owing to potentials created with foresight by Great Leader Heydar Aliyev’s worty follower Mr. Ilham Aliyev.

At the end of the ceremony it was assuredly stated that all the achievements gained in all spheres of our country, including the results achieved in migration field allows to say that the State Migration Service will participate actively by successful functioning and contributing to independent state establishment in the implementation of the objectives for the sake of which our martyrs have shed blood. Service employees should not settle down and should fulfil decently duties arising from the demands of the period in newly beginning 2012.

It was also stressed that Azerbaijani people will never forget this day and beloved memory of our martyrs sacrificed their lives on the way of freedom and independence will always live in hearts.

A documentary film dedicated to 20 January incidents of 1990 was demontrated at the end of the ceremony.
