Joint project within MIEUX program with initiatives of the State Migration Service and support of European Union and International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD)

On February 22-23, 2011, within MIEUX program of European Union and the participation of international experts “Round-Table” on current legislation of European Union in migration sphere and training on migration issues  was held in Baku.

Declaring round-table open Deputy chief of the State Migration Service Mr. Parviz Musayev said:  “To learn legislation of European Union is an urgent issue for every entity” and he notified that cooperation between EU and the Republic of Azerbaijan has started from 90s. Implementation of this cooperation by separate entities with different programs in the form of projects is among the achievements gained.

Deputy chief of the Service spoke about formation, development of migration processes in Azerbaijan and policy pursued in this sphere, establishment of the authority - State Migration Service that implements regulation of processes in this field and achievements gained for a short period of time.

Coordinator of MIEUX program for the country Mr. Oleg Chiritsa stated his appreciation from cooperation with Azerbaijan and his readiness for every kind of assistance within EU project.

Later, Mr. Peter Van Krieken, special advisor at Immigration and Naturalization Service of Ministry of Justice of the Netherlands, Liliana Stankova, professor of UNHCR on international law and human rights, employee of Free movement of persons, migration and integration Directorate in the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy of Bulgaria, Mr. Bo Brun, leading advisor of Immigration Service of Denmark made speeches on relevant topics.

Employees of the State Migration Service, State Border Service, Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Justice, Labor and Social Protection of Population representatives of International Organization for Migration, United Nations High Commission for Refugees also participated at the event.

At the end of round-table “Azerbaijan: strategy, policy and possibilities. Results of MIEUX Report on migration legislation of Azerbaijan” was presented by Mr. Peter Van Krieken, representative of the Netherlands Justice Ministry.
