Event related with 31 March – Genocide Day of Azerbaijanis held in the State Migration Service

On 31 March, 2011 the event related to 31 March - Azerbaijani’s Genocide day was held in the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan Republic.

It is notified that, though this date is directly connected with slaughters and pillages procreated by Armenians against Azerbaijanis at the end of March in 1918, its chronology is very broad.

For many centuries Armenian violators have dreamed of creating “Great Armenia” in the territory of ancient Azerbaijan lands, they have undertaken the most disgusting ways to realize this idea and have procreated unexampled savageries in the history of humanity. Historical facts prove that, Armenians have prepared special plan to carry out their crafty intentions.

Thus, Armenian gangs committed massive genocide act against Azerbaijanis in Baku, Tbilisi, Iravan, Ganja, Karabagh, Zangazur in 1905-1907. At the same period only in Shusha, Cavanshir, Jabrayil and Zangazur provinces 75 Azerbaijan villages were destroyed, in Iravan and Ganja provinces more than 200 residences were demolished. This disgraced policy was continued systematically afterwards.

February revolution and October overturn which happened in the Caucasus in 1917 resulted with the collapse of empire, nations living in the territory of the Russian Empire rose to a fight for their national independence. The way that was leading to the independence was not easy at all. In March-April of 1918 Armenians killed more than 50 thousand Azerbaijanis in Baku, Shamakhi, Guba, Mughan, Lenkeran. Thousands of people were banished from their homes, nearly 30 thousand fellows were killed with special cruelty. More than 8 thousand people - 2560 women and 1277 children were killed in Shamakhi and about 16 thousand inhabitants were murdered in Guba. 150 villages in the mountainous part of Karabagh, 115 in Zangazur, 211 in Iravan province, 92 in Kars province were destroyed. Genocide of Azerbaijanis was carried out with special cruelty in Karabagh, Zangazur, Nakhchivan and in the other territories of Azerbaijan. Peaceful residents were massively killed, villages were destroyed, and national culture monuments were annihilated. Emergency State Commission of People’s Republic of Azerbaijan has gave detailed information about the vandalism acts which Armenian gangs procreated against Azerbaijanis on 30-31 March and 1 April, 1918.

It was stated that, in 1920 after the collapse of People’s Republic of Azerbaijan deportation, ethnic cleansing and genocide policy were continued by Armenians. Founders of the Republic – notable statesmen, intellectuals exposed to mass arrests and persecutions. This actually was the continuation of genocide policy. From May of 1920 until November of 1921 48 thousand people in Azerbaijan were shot by bolsheviks and by dashnaks with a communist mask. Persecution of persons who had national sense continued with mass repressions in 1920-1930.

Later on it was notified that, genocide act committed against Azerbaijanis in March-April, 1918 was continued at the end of the century. Beginning from 1988 Armenians again came up with unfounded territory pretensions against Azerbaijanis. As a result of insidious policy prosecuted by Armenian invaders more than 250 thousand Azerbaijanis exiled from their native land. As a result of deportation, genocide and ethnic cleansing policy implemented by Armenians against Azerbaijan nation 20 percent of our lands have been occupied, more than one million of our compatriots have been exiled from their homelands.

The first politico-legal value to the genocide acts committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis was given by national leader Heydar Aliyev. March 26 1988 dated Decree “on Genocide of Azerbaijanis” which was signed by Great leader Heydar Aliyev is a historically significant document from this aspect. With this document in which for the first time political value was given to March massacres also it is reflected that every year 31 March will be held as commemoration day - Genocide Day of Azerbaijanis.

At the end it was noted that, now world community recognizes the aggressor and the country exposed to aggression well.  The whole Azerbaijan nation believes that as a result of successful foreign policy being implemented by President Ilham Aliyev the occupied lands of Azerbaijan soon will be freed from the invasion and our compatriots will return back to their historical lands.
