A meeting held between Chief of State Migration Service Vusal Huseynov and President of UN General Assembly Abdullah Shahid

A meeting was held between the Chief of the State Migration Service Vusal Huseynov and the President of the United Nations General Assembly Abdullah Shahid within the framework of the first International Migration Review Forum held at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York on May 20, 2022. Yashar Aliyev, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UN and employees of the Representation attended the meeting, as well.

During the meeting, Chief of the Service thanked the President of the UN General Assembly for continued support to the Member States in the effective implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, the first intergovernmentally negotiated agreement on international migration management, and noted that Azerbaijan participated in the Forum as one of the 33 countries identified by the UN Network on Migration as a "Champion Country" for the effective implementation of the Global Compact for Migration, as well as useful discussions were held within the framework of the 4th roundtable co-chaired by our country.

Vusal Huseynov noted that Azerbaijan has implemented a number of successful activities for the successful implementation of the Global Compact for Migration, expressed interest in strengthening cooperation within the Migration Multi-Partner Trust Fund established by the UN to support the implementation of the aforementioned document, as well as to support the "Champion Countries" initiative after the Forum. It was noted that the end of the occupation of the Azerbaijani lands, along with ensuring peace in the region, has created new realities and opportunities in all areas, including migration.

Mr. Abdullah Shahid, President of the UN General Assembly, highly appreciated Azerbaijan's efforts to manage migration processes and implement the Global Compact for Migration in recent years, as well as Azerbaijan's role in organizing and holding the International Migration Review Forum.

Later, discussions were held on the future activities of Azerbaijan in the field of migration at the national and regional levels, as well as the importance of the Regional Training Center on Migration, established in Azerbaijan and covering 13 countries of the region.
