Chief of State Migration Service met with Director of Operations and Emergencies of International Organization for Migration (IOM)

Welcoming the guest, Chief of the State Migration Service (SMS), II rank state migration service counselor Vusal Huseynov expressed satisfaction with the successful and fruitful cooperation with the IOM. Giving information about the activities of the SMS, Vusal Huseynov noted that a favorable ground has been created for strengthening the existing partnership, as well as stressed the importance of signing a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard. He stressed the importance of joint steps taken to provide assistance to vulnerable migrants in Azerbaijan within the relevant project implemented by the IOM in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Informing about the main purpose of the Regional Training Center on Migration, which is to serve to increase professional skills in the field of migration at the regional level, as well as its importance and future perspective Chief of the Service stressed the importance of the support provided by the IOM for the establishment of this Center. He underlined that a regional workshop held last week in Baku with the participation of representatives from 13 countries on the preparation of a Roadmap for the establishment of the Regional Training Center will serve to strengthen and expand regional partnerships in the field of migration.

Expressing gratitude to the IOM for the invitation to join the "Champion Countries" initiative launched under the auspices of the UN Migration Network under the Global Compact on Migration, Vusal Huseynov said that Azerbaijan is ready to share its experience on migration management.

Noting that under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev, our Brave Army liberated the ancient Azerbaijani lands from occupation, Vusal Huseynov expressed that this will not go unnoticed in the migration process in the country and the region, which in turn requires additional measures to establish a new framework for cooperation with the IOM and other specialized UN organizations.

Thanking for the warm reception, Director of Operations and Emergencies of the IOM Jeffrey Labovitz informed about the activities of the IOM in the area of his responsibility, talked about the prospects for further cooperation, as well as expressed his support in the field of migration management.
