The Republic of Azerbaijan elected as a member of the Global Forum on Migration and Development Steering Group

Taking into consideration the significant achievements attained by Azerbaijan both at national and regional levels in the field of migration management, the country has been elected as a member of the Steering Group of the Global Forum on Migration and Development.

It should be noted that established in 2007 the Global Forum on Migration and Development is the largest informal, non-binding, government-led process where migration and development issues are discussed at a global scale. The purpose of the Forum is to promote integrated approach to migration and development at national and international level by supporting existing regional consultations in the sphere of migration. Currently comprising of 29 states the Steering Group implements overall strategic orientation of the Forum’s work, offers sustained political and conceptual support to the Chair-in-Office and ensures continuity of the process. Furthermore, it gives recommendations to the Chair with regard to developing agenda and work plan of the Forum.

Representation in the Forum’s Steering Group will promote the country’s participation in migration management at a global level, as well as contribute to sharing best practices of Azerbaijan in this field.
