The victims of the Khojaly genocide commemorated at the State Migration Service

An event regarding the 28th anniversary of February 26 – Khojaly genocide has been held at the State Migration Service.

The event participants familiarized with the exhibition of paintings dedicated to the Khojaly genocide, as well as the photos of filming process of the movie named “Khojaly is waiting” in the Service’s lobby.

At first, victims of the Khojaly genocide were commemorated, with a minute of silence at the commemoration ceremony.

In his opening speech chief of the State Migration Service, III rank state migration service counselor Vusal Huseynov mentioned that the Azerbaijani nation were subject to aggression by our ominous neighbors from time to time, expelled from their ancient territories, deported and became the victims of bloody tragedies. This historical hostility and hatred feelings against our nation demonstrated its ultimate limit to the world with the genocide committed in Khojaly.

The Service chief noted that the Khojaly massacre is one of the most unforgettable and painful events in the Armenian-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. On the night of February 25-26, 1992, the Armenian armed forces deployed armored vehicles to Khojaly and slaughtered the civil population of the city with unprecedented cruelty. 613 people, including 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderly were killed, 487 civilians were seriously injured and 1,275 residents were taken hostage.

Vusal Huseynov stated that the Khojaly genocide is an unforgettable page for every Azerbaijani and highlighted the importance of continuous awareness of the world community about the tragedy. The Service chief noted that the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan will be absolutely restored and perpetrators of this genocide will be brought to justice.

The event participants were deeply touched by painful memories of the witness of genocide, the resident of Khojaly Murvat Mammadov, who was rescued from captivity.

The screenwriter of the film “Khojaly is waiting” Afag Ahmadova shared her feelings and experiences during the filming process with the event participants.

Later, the film “Khojaly is waiting” of the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Closed Joint–Stock Company dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was screened for the first time.
