Learning and exchanging best international practices are in the spotlight of the State Migration Service

An expert mission on “Risk analysis on illegal migration” within the framework of the TAIEX project of the European Commission has been organized at the State Migration Service.

The aim was to learn ways and methods applied in the European Union Member States for identifying potential risks of illegal migration in the Republic of Azerbaijan that will contribute to identification of potential risks of illegal migration to the country, fostering of legal migration by ensuring security, as well as the ongoing process of drafting migration strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In the opening ceremony, Deputy Chief of the State Migration Service, III rank state migration service counselor Parviz Musayev delivered a speech on new opportunities and benefits of global migrations processes occurred around the world for the states, as well as significance of application of flexible solution mechanisms. He noted that today, significant increase is observed in the number of persons visiting the Republic which is included into the list of safe countries with the purposes of tourism, permanent residence, as well as carrying out labor activity and this, in its turn brings illegal migrations risks with it.

Deputy Chief of the Service stated that SMS always pays particular attention to these issues. Since 2015 more than 10 groups organizing migrant smuggling to Europe from the country were detected by us during the period in which migration processes become much more intensive in the world. Serious actions are taken in this regard and measures are conducted jointly with the relevant law enforcement bodies towards preventing illegal migration channels.

P.Musayev mentioned that learning and mutual exchange of best practices with the purpose of combatting illegal migration cases, preventing these risks by analyzing them beforehand significantly contributes to the development of knowledge and abilities of the Service employees. Deputy Chief brought into attention of the participants main steps taken towards enhancement of relations with the European Union in the field of migration. He stated that SMS is always ready for enlargement of fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation with the European Union and interested in continuation of initiatives and joint projects triggering the positive impact of migration to the development.

It should be noted that experts from the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX) and the Republic of Slovenia will share best practices of the European Union on topics such as risk sources, role of risk analysis reports in migration management, their development procedure and methodology, as well as push and pull factors of the illegal migration in 3 days event. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Border Service, the State Security Service and the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations participated in the event, as well.
