Vusal Huseynov: “Protection of the migrant rights is always in the center of attention”

These remarks has been made by Chief of the State Migration Service, III rank state migration service counselor, Vusal Huseynov at the meeting of the UN Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.

Delivering a speech on the topic of "Solution of the main problems of migrant workers against the background of global crises in the changing world", Service chief underlined that the scale of migration is rapidly expanding as a result of various political, economic processes and military conflicts occurring in the modern world, the vast majority of migrants is comprised of labor migrants and states should demonstrate unified approach to address their problems. He noted that Azerbaijan is both a country of destination and origin in terms of labor migration. Ensuring regulation of migration processes in accordance with international standards, as well as protection of the rights of migrants, especially migrant workers, is a priority for our country. Therefore, along with protection of the rights of our citizens working abroad, protection of the rights of migrants arriving in our country for employment is always in the focus of attention of the government.

Vusal Huseynov gave information on the measures taken to adapt the migration policy to requirements of the new era, as well as to increase the impact of migration processes on development through comprehensive approach.

The Service chief briefed that Azerbaijan has signed bilateral and multilateral agreements with a number of countries for the purpose of protection of the rights of migrant workers and their families.

Delivering a speech within the framework of the meeting Sahil Babayev, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, Elmira Suleymanova, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Ombudsman), as well as Can Unver, Acting Chairman of the UN Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families and others informed about significant contributions made by migrant workers to society and economy in both origin and destination countries, the role of governments and international community in securing their rights, as well as importance of exchanging experience and information in this area.
