Vusal Huseynov: “Establishment of the efficient dialogue among people, countries and communities is particularly significant for Azerbaijan”

These opinions have been mentioned by Chief of the State Migration Service Vusal Huseynov in the plenary session on “Migration, displacement and human security” held in the framework of the 5th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.

The 5th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue was launched on May 2 the in the Heydar Aliyev Center under the slogan “Building dialogue into action against discrimination, inequality and violent conflict”.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening ceremony of the Forum.

The forum is organized in cooperation with the UNESCO, the UN Alliance of Civilizations, the World Tourism Organization (WTO), the Council of Europe and the ISESCO. High level officials from more than 100 countries and 30 international organizations participate in the event.

A plenary session on “Migration, displacement and human security” was held in the framework of the Forum on May 3. Michael Hardy, Professor and Executive Director of the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations at Coventry University, Mevludin Nuhodzic, Minister of the Interior of Montenegro, Vusal Huseynov, Chief of the State Migration Service, Heaven Crawley, Head of the South-South Migration, Inequality and Development Global Project, CTPSR Coventry University, Linda Oucho, Director of the Research and Data Hub at the African Migration and Development Policy Centre, Alexandra Bilak, Director of the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre, Maurizio Lupi, Member of the Italian Parliament and Akkan Suver, President of the Marmara Group Foundation made speeches in the Session.

Chief of the State Migration Service Vusal Huseynov underlined the international significance of the 5th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue. He mentioned that dedication of one of the key plenary topics to “Migration, displacement and human security” within the Forum for the first time, is the indicator of globally growing attention to migration in the world.

Vusal Huseynov spoke about the current migration processes in the world, impact of the conflicts happening in some regions on movement of people, role of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in migration processes, significance of establishment of strong partnerships and holistic approach for the solution of the problems in this field. The Service chief noted that establishment of the efficient dialogue between people, countries and communities is particularly significant for Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan’s accession to the documents, such as the “Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration” and the “Global Compact for Refugees” is obvious indicator of that.  

Moreover, Chief of the State Migration Service informed the session participants about the occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories as a result of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, refugee and IDP problems in the country and purposeful measures carried out by the government for their solution and realized activities for the elimination of the negative results of internal and foreign migration processes within the country.   

Making speeches, representatives of other international organizations, academic circles and non-governmental organizations expressed their assurances that the discussions on migration, displacement and human security issues within the 5th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue will contribute to the global partnership in this field.

The topic was widely discussed in the Session.
