Members of the Public Council under the State Migration Service familiarized with the detention conditions of illegal migrants

Members of the Public Council under the State Migration Service have visited the Baku Detention Center for Illegal Migrants. This visit was organized according to the regulations of the Public Council and the work plan of the first half of the current year for the purpose of familiarization with the daily activity of the Center.

Detailed information on the activity of the Baku Detention Center for Illegal Migrants was given to the members of the Council and it was noted that at present there are 25 persons placed in the Center, including 6 children and 5 women.

During the meeting the members of the Council were given detailed information on working regime of the Center, internal discipline rules, rights and obligations of foreigners and stateless persons voluntary and compulsory placed there. Furthermore, the members of the Council were familiarized with the administrative building of the Center, checkpoints, waiting room for visitors, meeting room, photo-shooting and fingerprints registration room, search room, dormitory buildings, interview room, sanitary room, pre-trial (temporiarly) detention rooms for newcomers (quarantine places), canteen, library, recreation room, sports ground, playground for children, medical point and other places. They made suggestions regarding the internal structure and conditions of the buildings complex of the Center. Migrants answered questions of the members of the Council and expressed satisfaction with the care and attention paid to them.

The chairman of the Public Council under the State Migration Service Azar Allahveranov spoke about goals and tasks of the public institution that he represents, the work carried out in this field, as well as mentioned that the activity of the detention centers for illegal migrants should be always kept in the spotlight by the Council and such activities will be continued in the context of public control in general. As a result of the exchange of views between the members of the Council and the staff of the Center it was decided to prepare and implement social rehabilitation and adaptation programs for detained foreigners, especially for women and children.

The unanimous conclusion of the members of the Council was that the activity and conditions of the Baku Detention Center for Illegal Migrants of the State Migration Service were organized in compliance with the principles of ensuring human rights and freedoms, as well as international norms and standards in that sphere.
