Migration unit opened at the "Astara" border checkpoint

The opening ceremony of the migration unit of the State Migration Service has been held at the "Astara" border checkpoint between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

First deputy Chief of the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, II rank state migration service counselor Vali Naghiyev, Deputy chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, major-general of customs service Javad Gasimov, Chief of the Border Control Department of the State Border Service, major-general Abbas Khalilov and Head of the Astara Executive Power Gazanfar Aghayev attended the ceremony.

Vali Naghiyev underlined the importance of establishing and forming migration units at land checkpoints of the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan.  He stated that efficiency, convenience and transparency of services provided to foreigners and stateless persons are priorities under the control of the State Migration Service. For this purpose, the Service has started to expand its functions recently. Thus, the State Migration Service in cooperation with the State Border Service and the State Customs Committee took appropriate measures in order to establish migration units at the border checkpoints of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2018. Over the last two months, 24-hour service of the State Migration Service has been ensured at the “Samur” and “Shikhly” border checkpoints.

First deputy Chief of the Service noted that, today, establishment of the migration unit at the "Astara" border checkpoint will contribute to ensuring barrier free entry and exit of foreigners and stateless persons, rendering flexible and on-site services, raising their awareness of migration legislation.

He also underlined that the creation of conditions for the persons crossing the state border in order to apply to migration bodies without waste of time, is a serious step towards raising satisfaction of the applicants.

Afterwards V. Naghiyev got familiarized with the current situation at the "Astara" checkpoint of the state border, organization of the activity of the migration unit, and gave relevant instructions and recommendations for the improvement of the quality of the rendered services.

It should be noted that new service points of the State Migration Service was launched at the “Samur” (the Republic of Azerbaijan – the Russian Federation) and “Shikhly” border checkpoints on 2 November and 16 December of 2018 (the Republic of Azerbaijan - Georgia) respectively.
