The chief of State Migration Service met with the Regional Director of International Organization for Migration

Chief of State Migration Service Vusal Huseynov met with the Regional Director  for South-Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Argentina Szabados from International Organization for Migration in the headquarters of the Service. Chief of the IOM Mission in Azerbaijan Serhan Aktoprak attended the meeting.

The purpose of the meeting held in the atmosphere of mutual exchange of views was to discuss the perspectives of cooperation with IOM, which is official member of UN family since 2016 and one of the main international partners of the SMS.

Chief of State Migration Service mentioned that IOM is one of the main partners of SMS in the field of migration management and many projects have been implemented within the framework of the organization’s activities in the country.

V.Huseynov emphasized that the main priority for SMS is to further deepe existing international cooperation and to strengthen the Azerbaijan’s position in the field of migration at the global level.

Touching upon the importance of the implemented projects, chief of the Service stated that the SMS sent 12 requests about 16 people to the International Organization for Migration within the framework of The Pilot Project on Assistance for the Voluntary Return of Migrants from Azerbaijan and the voluntary return of 12 among those persons have been realized. 

Expressing her gratitude for the sincere reception, Argentina Szabados pointed out that the organization she represents has been operating in Azerbaijan for 22 years. A.Szabados highlighted the importance of the project jointly im[plemented with the IOM,  of which Azerbaijan has been a member  since 2001.  Recalling her visit to our country in 2016,  shenoted that the Azerbaijani model of migration management can be an example for other countries.

At the meeting the sides exchanged their views on other issues of mutual interest.
