The cooperation perspectives between State Migration Service and International Organization for Migration were discussed

Vusal Huseynov, chief of State Migration Service (SMS) has met with Serhan Aktoprak, the head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to Azerbaijan in the administrative building of the Service.  

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the perspectives of cooperation between SMS and IOM.

First, Serhon Aktoprak congratulated Vusal Huseynov on his new appointment and wished him success.

In his turn, Vusal Huseynov thanked his associate and touched the necessity of further deepening of relations with the international organization IOM, according to the strategy set for the fulfillment of the duties of the Service, as the entrance door of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He announced that concrete steps will be taken in order to improve all aspects of the service in line of the best international experiences and completely ensure the transparency. He also talked about utility of humanist and regular migration for migrants as well as for society.

The necessity of determination and preventing the probability of difficulties of our republic in migration field in advance has also been touched. It was noted that, migration legislation has fully covered the issues in this area.

There was held detailed opinion-exchange on the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement on “The Pilot Project on Assistance for the Voluntary Return of Migrants from Azerbaijan” between the State Migration Service and the International Organization for Migration. The chief of the Service talked about the positive and constructive relationship between the State Migration Service and the International Organization for Migration on the issues of common interest.

At present, 4 international projects are being implemented within the cooperation with IOM: “Consolidating the capacities on migration and border management in Azerbaijan”, “Consolidating the capacities on fights against human trafficking in Azerbaijan”, “Consolidating the capacities in Azerbaijan and strengthening the cooperation for the effectiveness of fights against human trafficking through technical support - VI phase "," The Pilot Project on Assistance for the Voluntary Return of Migrants from Azerbaijan ".

Serhan Aktoprak, the head of IOM office to Azerbaijan, expressed satisfaction of the organization he represented with the cooperation with the relevant government bodies, particularly with SMS. He noted that the government bodies dealing with migration in the Republic of Azerbaijan are very careful and progressive.

Another issues causing mutual interest were discussed in the meeting.
